About
Our History
Abbotsford Mission Recycling Program provides recycling services for the City of Mission and City of Abbotsford.
The Recycling Program is a part of Archway (formally known as Abbotsford Community Services) and began in the early 70’s as one of the first recycling programs in the province of British Columbia. It started as a program to provide meaningful employment for those with barriers to employment and continues to advocate for this presently.
The Process
Abbotsford Mission Recycling processes residential curb-site recycling and items brought to our two drop-off locations in Abbotsford and Mission.
These recyclables are placed onto a conveyor belt and hand sorted, by Abbotsford Mission Recycling Program employees, into different types of materials. Once sorted, the recyclables are either baled or loaded loose into shipping containers and sent to markets for processing.
As of April 2017, the City of Abbotsford and District of Mission are participating members of the provincial Recycle BC (MMBC) Recycling Program.
By joining the Recycle BC Program, the City of Abbotsford and District of Mission’s recycling services will be funded by the producers that supply packaging and printed paper. The municipalities will collect the curbside recyclable materials on behalf of Recycle BC.
