Household Hazardous Waste

Abbotsford Mission Recycling Program accepts Household Hazardous Waste as a part of the Product Care Program.

Household Hazardous Waste must be dropped off at the Abbotsford or Mission Depot as it is not accepted in curbside recycling.

Acceptable Residential Household Hazardous Waste (free of charge):

  • Smoke Detectors
  • CO2 Detectors
  • Mercury-filled Thermostats
  • Household Paint Cans (with or without residue)
  • Paint Aerosol Cans (with or without residue)
  • Flammable liquids (must display flammable symbol)
  • Domestic Pesticide (must display poison symbol and ‘pest control product’ PCP registration number)
  • Gasoline (must be returned in an approved UCL container, maximum 25 litres)

Please contact us to make special arrangements for business loads or large quantities of product

Materials Not Accepted:

  • Commercial, industrial, or agricultural products (except industrial aerosols)
  • Unidentifiable, unknown, or unlabeled products
  • Leaking or improperly sealed products
  • Non-aerosol automotive paint
  • Quick drying or line marking paint
  • Caulking compound
  • Two-part or component paint containing catalyst or activator
  • Brushes, rags, and rollers
  • Roof patch or repair tars and grease
  • Non-flammable glue and adhesive
  • Diesel fuels
  • Insect repellents, disinfectants, and pet products
  • Cosmetic products
  • Fertilizer
